Whats the best option for this aside from cassette.

I think you are comparing apples and oranges. One is a 3.5mm uncontrolled aux-in and the other appears to be an iPod/iPhone 4/4S interface.
Sound from any device can be played through a simple 3.5mm aux-in - if you want simple.
