Default My Stock Stereo Hardly Works??

I haven't had my SC300 for very long, but I got it with the stock stereo system sucking pretty hardcore.. It does have the Nakimichi, or whatever it is, premium sound system.

What its doing:

On start up, antenna goes up as it should but the sound is very staticy and quiet. You can ALMOST hear music very faintly.

After awhile, it will just magically come on, but it is very very quiet, even with the volume turned all the way up.

The music also has no depth. Bass and treble adjustments have little or no effect, though the fade and balance adjustments work just fine.

What is the problem here? It appears there was an aftermarket system set up in this car once before as the car has amp and sub wires all over the place. Could it be my stock head unit sucking or what? My stock sub and amp seem to be hooked up on their ends but I'm not sure if they are properly fitted up front?

I really want to get this taken care of before I go ahead and install my double din. Riding around without any tunes is starting to get super boring.

Thanks,

Shane

hmmmm. if I were you I would start tracing everything. was it just a sub/amp that the prior owner had?

In cases like this I usually charge two charges depending on the vehicle and what im installing but I would remove everything and 1. verify wiring for factory setup is complete. 2. remove anything and everything that doesnt look OEM. in reality you want to go totally back to stock. unless you need to use things again like reusing a set of RCA's. but my practice is to go back to stock and start over if aftermarket stuff will be added. that way if something goes wrong, your not left wondering what the other owner did.

just my $0.02
