Default Should I be able to play DVDs??

I am sorry if I post this in the wrong forum. BUT:
I have recently bought a used 2008 RX400h and its (as you know) fantstic.
It is equipped with a Mark Levinson system and clearly shows a DVD symbol in the front of the player. Encouraged by this I tried inserting a DVD movie in the player. It played sound but no pictures. Should this system be able to play DVDs with the car parked? What about alternative codecs? (DivX / Iphonevideos??)
Would any of you have a link to a manual for the sound system?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks a million
Going right out to the garage to give it a try.
I usually NEVER engage the P-brake in fear of leavingit on accidentally in extremely cold weather.
This is going to be the exception.

I have the override and only watched a DVD once while driving. It was too distracting.

But, you have the capability to play DVD Audio which opens up a bunch of opportunities (Super high def music, ultra long playing discs).
