Default Lexus LS430 Subwoofer Upgrade

I am looking to upgrade my sub in my 06 LS430. I have just the basic sound system not the ML. I can't decide which way to go. I want to keep everything stock just looking for more bass. Most of what I have read seems all over the place so I thought I would ask here.

Is it worthless just to try and replace the stock sub with a better sub?

Are there any plug and play free air subs with amp worth upgrading to or should I go with a box?

It would be nice to replace the factory sub with a better sub and amp. That is what I would like to do, so I don't loose the trunk space. I read about the JL 8W7AE-3 with maybe a 500w RFosgate amp but not sure how dated that story is? And is one nice 8 free air sub better than two moderate 12' boxed subs? Is the JL 8 w7 even a free air sub or does it need a box?

I'm looking for some bass that will shake the hairs on your arm and neck but I am not trying blow the doors off. My last setup was about 15 years ago were I had 2x12' Kickers and they sounded great.

I am open to any suggestions or hearing somebody elses setup recommendations.

Thanks.

1 12 ported through the factory ski hole or the factory sub location so all the bass enters the car and not the trunk.

Looks like I have been talked into this... replacing the stock sub with an

ARC8D2/D4
Dual voice coil 150 watts rms / 300 peak

ARCK XXD 4080

I guess it can't be any worse than what I got, just not sure how much more bass I will get out of it compared to the stock sub??
