Arrow Hey Brother,...

You gotta dismantle that fatty steel plate between the back seats and the gas tank. Otherwise ya cant hear sh*t. Well,.. thats the case for me. I put 2 15's back der with a 1000 watt amp.,.. and NOTHING! The trunk on the 1st gen are where they filmed "The panic room",.. with Jodie Foster,.....lol..

That "fatty steel plate" holds your car together and protects you from the gas tank.

You are right about the solidity of the trunk though.

The real quality free air drivers I've found are made by Dynaudio, Focal and Vifa. There may be more, but mostly what is available are cheap and nasty, tinplate Eminence drivers or Chinese rubbish.

The Vifa M26WR-19-04 is probably the equal of the others (could even be superior) and costs around 60 dollars from Speaker City and other speaker mail order suppliers. Unfortunately, it is so cheap, no one ever believes me how good it is.

Applying damping material to the trunk panels makes a difference.
