Default blown speaker????? PLEASE HELP!!

ahh i was just driving down the road then i heard this cracking like sound out of my right side tweeter.......i immediately turned it off.....and then turned it back on to hav it crackling again......its doesnt crackle when the volume is pretty low.......so im thinkin maybe blown tweeter??? but i just had these for only about 2 months......and i never heard any loud pop or anything come from the speaker.....and i didnt smell any smoke or anything burnt.......so could this just be a wiring problem somewhere???

btw my sys left and right channels are put into my 300/2 amp that then goes to the dynaudio crossover which then goes to each speaker in the door.....
PLEASE HELP!!

A cracking noise with excessive movement of the dome could indicate that the tweeter is receiving a full range signal. You could try hooking up a bass/mid driver to the tweeter input connections to see if there are any bass signals going in there.

It could just be that you have a faulty unit. It happens.

thanks stevie....i just went out to the car and hooked up a middbass driver to the tweeter connections and all i heard was basically the highs.....i couldnt really here much bass at all.......so that probably means the crossover is still good then?? i also tried to filter out the signal at the amp (did Highpass filter) and the tweeter still did the cracking and excessive dome movement when the music was turned up just slightly beyond comfortable.....should i send the x-over and tweeter back??
thanks again for the reply!

You could make absolutely sure by swapping the left and right tweeters over. If the fault crosses over, and I think it will, you have a faulty tweeter. If the fault stays on the same side, the problem is not the tweeter.

Then I'd send it back for replacement.

okay well i finally had time and i switched the lines for the tweeters (right connector from the x-over went to the left side tweeter and vice versa)......and well it sounded fine!......i didnt hear any excessive dome movement or anything!......which is wierd...so then i moved the wiring back to the original setup and then the same problem occured but this time i heard a very faint engine whine!....so now somehow engine whine is on that faulty side?? what would make this suddently appear?
all i did to switch the wires was take a two extra wires i had from before and i ran it from the x-overs to the cables for the tweeters...so i didnt mess w/ any of the wires so no reason to introduce noise........any thoughts????

Kizoku, I don't quite follow what you have done here. You need to disconnect both tweeters and swap their positions. So the tweeter that was on the right is now on the left. Is that what you did?

Default fixed it!

thanks a bunch stevie!........i intially just switched the wiring from one tweeter to the next w/out actually phyiscally moving the tweeters.....but since u told me to move the actual tweeter i took one door panel off and pulled out the tweeter and found that a metal bar that was used to hold the tweeter in place had it's bolt lossened (from massive bumps in this one road) and the metal bar had shifted to the positive post on the tweeter........the metal bar just so happened to touch the metal on the car door and so it caused my problem along w/ some slight engine whine!.....so i fixed the metal bar and insulated the posts and now everything works fine.......thanks for your help man!

Don't thank me - you fixed the problem yourself. Glad to hear everything is working all right now.
