Anyone know how to program keys??
I have 2003 (2nd gen.) GS300 with 2 regular keys and a wallet key. When i bought the car it had only 1 regular so I did an ebay purchase for a second and just copied the settings from the master key to this one with the instructions from the seller. I was speaking with a lexus dealer guy who said you can program funtions which they charge ridiculous amouts for. The funtion names i dont know so please bear with me, 1 funtion for example is when you stick the key in and wheel automaticlly goes to the last setting or when you lock/ unlock the car manualy with key in the door you can roll/unroll all the windows. He said you could program the key to do or not do these things. Anyone know how to do this?? would really like to have the wheel stay in one postion I can get out no problem and am pretty much the only driver..(except for when I take the GSX-R i'll let the girly turn some corners lol)
The "programming" you are referring to does not involve programming the key ... it involves changing the LPS (Lexus Personalized Settings) of the car using a handheld scantool with the appropriate program card.
What can be customized differs by model and model year. Lists of what can be customized for various models and model years have been posted my others and myself in the past and your Lexus dealer should be able to give you a list if you can't find one.
Customizing LPS should not be expensive. Some dealers/repair shops do it for free if you are having other work done or they might charge you a nominal (< $100) fee.
The list of customizable features is long. Having everything you want customized at the same time might be less expensive. If I remember correctly, your GS has substantially fewer customizable features than an LS of the same year.

Thanks for the info Kansas I did get a quote of $75 from the dealer a while back I just didn't know if there was any other way to do it on your own. I copied one key to another no problem but didn't know it actually required a tool to change the LPS. The only feature I believe on my car is the wheel tilt & keyed window control You know what other options the GS has? I wish I had the LS or "loaded ****" man that car does everything but your coffe in the morning! lol But i couldn't afford the ballin' big daddy Lexus so I got the GS
