I've been meaning to post pics of this for you guys. I wanted some serious low-end from my stereo without sacrificing my spare tire or any trunk space. I also didn't want to bother with the free-air sub as I know I would have been unhappy with it. I decided to test my hand at fiberglassing and this is what I came up with. I'm running an Image Dynamics 10" sub in a sealed enclosure off an Xtant 403A amp (about 200watts RMS on the sub channel). I never measured the actual airspace but I designed it to be 0.55cu ft. so it is probably close. This gives clean and loud bass in the car which is almost inaudible from outside and is totally hidden. Mission accomplished.

Another view. It wraps around the tank and the upper strut mount very close. I had to pound out the deck lid a bit to flatten it and squeeze a little more airspace into the box.

Here's a terrible shot of the rear of the box, haha. It's ugly as sin from the tinfoil and lack of sanding/paint, but my gas tank is the only one who sees this view, haha. You can see how many contours it needed to get the necessary airspace. You can't really tell, but the top of the box is a piece of plywood, the less glassing the easier!

Here's the trunk re-assembled. No shiny amp or sub for a thief to spot next time I go to the store, no giant box taking up my entire trunk; it looks totally stock. It doesn't hit like 2 15's, but much better than the stock sub.

very nice job, thats a sweet idea i never thought u could get enough air space outta there. i went with a free air 10 in the deck its not bad but not the best.

I removed the upper gas tank bolt on that side when I masked/glassed the back of the box, expecting to drill through and secure it using that bolt. However, the shape is so close to the tank and strut tower contours, it basically squishes in perfect and doesn't move. I'll get around to drilling out the hole eventually, but so far it hasn't presented any problems.

xknowonex: I live in Ladera Ranch, which is south Orange County. I could probably build another box, it was a PAIN to figure it out the first time but I'm sure it would go much faster a second. I'll have to look into it but I could maybe use my box to make a mold or something. Email me at shadowdrop1@yahoo.com and I'll look into what I'd need to make a good replica outside of the car.
