Default Help, Stock amp fried on 1998 ES300

I puchased a Polk Audio 8" inch subwoofer with dual voice coil, to replace the stock subwoofer that came with the car. I'm using the stock Nakamichi amp to power the subwoofer. I purchased the subwoofer from crutcfield and was told I had to replace the stock 2 ohm subwoofer with a dual voice coil sub and to wire the sub in series to get 2 ohms. I did everything as I was told, I then powered up the radio and the sub starting working, it was playing for awhile then suddenly the radio turned off and then I noted smoke coming out the vent above the glove box. I checked the fuses in the engine compartment and noted a blown fuse for the radio, 20 amp. I replaced the fuse and noted more smoke, same area and blown fuse again. So, I removed the glovebox and unplugged the wires going to the amp, replaced the 20 amp fuse and this time it didnt blow and no more smoke, but the radio doesnt work. My questions are 1) where can I get a new OEM amp and how much 2) Why did the stock amp fry while using the Polk Audio subwoofer, was wiring it up in 2 ohm to much of a strain on the amp? Can I wire it just for 4 ohm on one side? I'm afraid to fry another amp. I need some advise, any help would be greatly appreciated.
