I just bought a 2006 GX470 (great deal, etc.).

The car came with one key.

The got the dealer to give me a the chip for a second key. So I bought a shell from the dealer (so the key cutting would be exact). The dealer told me the remote battery is good.

Now, I need to program the new key.

I've found 2 different methods of programming the key (one on this site- turn ignition on/off 5x open driver door 6x, etc.). The second method said press gas pedal 5x, break pedal 6x, etc.

Then, both methods have a second piece of info called "remote programing" (both of which are different).

So, questions:

1 - I belive I need to program the key in the ignition first. Then I follow the remote programming to program the key to lock/unlock the doors, correct?

2 - Both methods of programming the key in the ignition did NOT work. I tried both methods multiple times. (I'm doing the steps quickly so i'm sure I'm under the time limit).

Am I using the correct set of instructions?

I've been able to program the new key to open and close the door locks but can't program the key to turn on the ignition.

I've done a bunch of internet searches and have read as much as I could find in this website but I still can't get a straight answer.

Can I program an ignition key for a 2006 GX470 or am I screwed and need to go to the dealer?
