I wanted to know if anyone has had success with keeping stock Lexus speakers and simply wiring in aftermarket amp for extra power? This is a system for my wife's car which I would like to augment without completely re-doing since she would probably not appreciate the time and $$ spent. I have a kick a** system in my own truck so it drives me crazy to get in her 94 SC and listen to the weak stereo - I have 2 spare Orion amps that I could use (one is 2105 xp - 125x2 with 3 or 4 channel capability and the other is 420gt with 20x4 at 4 ohms). This car is new to us so any advice would be appreciated - I have not dedicated much time researching the stock system so I appreciate any budget conscious advice you could offer - thanks

I think you are going to get much more informed information than I have but I am in the process of replacing the front door speakers with Percy's recommended Dynaudios and leaving the stock amp and head unit (for the time being). I am not sure about the improvement you are going to see with your amps and the stock speakers. Two points, first is that the stock speakers are 2 ohm and second, they don't look that robust. If you combine the 2 ohm and the light quality, my guess would be that you will fry the stock speakers in no time. Like I said, you are going to get far more informed opinions from the people on this board that know a lot more than I do in this area but that is my view of the stock setup, just got a good close look at it.

 

I dunno, I hooked up my stock speaker of my 95 Civic to my MMATS D300HC and it didn't do so well...
