today I was drving along and then all sudden my stereo stop playing music...nav screen still works ...but zero sound

then when I turn the car off...and turn it on..i get music again..for 3 seconds then it cuts out.

bad amp? this is weird...when my amp went bad 2 years ago...it popped etc..

this is all quiet

any body please help!

 

bad wiring -- i.e. remote wire...

on a different but slightly similar note mine did this once last summer (only the radio would play--- no cd) after i put a bunch of stuff in my glove box and shut it,,, after about 30 mins of getting pissed off i realized that there was to much stuff in the glove box and it was putting to much pressure (pushing up) on the cd changer so i moved some stuff and problem solved.

sometimes it something completely unexpected that fixes the problem.

ML Amp.

The internal design of the amp is "**** poor" to say the least. One very small fan is used to cool the entire assembly. Even though they TRY to heat sink it, the installation is usually kept in a small area that gets very very little airflow.

The ML amps have had more problems than any other audio name in history for any automobiles from Lexus. Same with the ML speakers. They tend to blow out quite often.

That's what you get for "good marketing". Hype the name "Mark Levinson" but not back it up with the same build quality as their home gear.

Okay that just happened to me today 2006 ES330. ML sound suddenly gone on start, Navi sound still good. I turned car off/on and sound came back but went away again. So you think it ML Amp?

 

How long does it take before the sound goes out? And at what volume are you listening at?

to OP - i know you replaced everything to Alpine, but did you keep the Nav screen? if you got any pics, i'd appreciate them.

Today i was told that i can't replace the ML amp with a 5ch aftermarket amp. Only to get a new HU and speakers/amps. Am i being BSed or thats how it goes?

 

you can do it with a 5 channel, but it sounds way better with everyting

yes i kept the nav screen, and sould all the mark levinson stuff

i went wiht a 4 channel amp, and a mono amp for the subs...then went with componants up front and 6.5's in the rear...and let me tellyou it blows the ML stuff away..

plus after i sold all my old ML stuff...it was a deal!!!

I haven't had any problems with my ML on my GS430 (knock on wood), but it's surprising how fragile the amps are especially since how expensive the option was on the car.

 

It's called marketing and profit.

They advertise "100,000 dollar home systems" for the ML. But in reality, their car stuff is lacking. Forget ALL the flowery reviews.

 

Can someone tell me if replacing just the amplifier with a 5ch aftermarket(instead of ML amp) is possible? MOST people tell me NO but in a few threads(like this one) i've found that it was done. I've contacted all of them and no response. SOMEONE SHINE SOME LIGHT ON THIS please! driving in silence is a pain.

Percy - when I took out the ML sub and speakers i was amazed how flimzy and cheaply made it felt. I wonder if ML stuff in new LS's and LX's any better?
