Hey Guys,
I need help with something. About 10 years ago I had a car stereo shop install 2 12" subs in my car. The set up was very unusal and I have not seen it again. They used readymade Isobaric set up, where two subs were in clamshell config. They were mounted to rear deck of my car with about 4 inch hole in deck for the port.
I cant remember who it was made by and if something like that is still avaliable.
I recently installed 2 kicker 10's in my car in a ported box along with a kicker amp zx750.1 but I am not happy with the bass, so I was wondering about my option and I think the what I had before would work wonderfully in my gs300.
Also can someone tell me what is the best free air sub to use in 2nd generation gs300.

One that fits. It should also have an Fs of 30hz or lower. The Qts should be .5 to .7. Xmax will depend on the power that you have on tap and how loud you want but I like to have at least 15mm of one-way linear excursion. Nice but not required would be low distortion motor technology like XBL^2, LMT or split coil along with low inductance.
Robert,
Thank you for the information. I have seen you other post where you mention same thing. Any particular brand? or I just need to search for something with those parameter.
I have always heard that ported or seal boxes will be much better for sound rather then free-air / IB set up. Any thoughts on that?
Once again thank you for the valuable information.
I've ran all setups in my car before except for isobaric (I usually run 1 driver only). IB is nice to save space but many of the IB installs I've done, the output isnt exactly stellar. If you listen to your music at moderate level, then it's good enough. The sound quality is nice though, especially if you have a driver that's capably of delivering a good amount of Xmax. In the end I went with a sealed box in the form of a sonotube. I'm much happier than I ever was with all my other setup.
Sealed, ported, infinite baffle, bandpass, etc...they all have their pros and cons. However, what's more important is if the driver you choose will work in those enclosures. Some subwoofers sound better in ported box where others will sound better in sealed.

Nilesh. I got your PM. I don't answer technical questions via PM. That is a disservice to this forum as no one can search and find what I said. It takes away from this site as a knowledge base.

It would great if someone else was manufacturing something like it now.
This is just a manifold IB install. No one makes a retail version any more but it should be simple to create if you have some basic woodworking skills.

I wouldn't recommend Funky Pup subs or any other flea market brand. But most quality brands will with those parameters will work just fine. You can even get one custom built from Fi Car Audio. E-mail Scott or Nick and tell them you want a 10" or 12" IB sub and what amp you will be using with it. The more info the better. They will reply with a price and how long it will take to build. Each of their subs is built when ordered so you will be in the queue just like everyone else.

IB is just a sealed box where the box is so large that it has no impact on the performance of the driver. No box to color the sound so you are left with the best sound quality available. Now, it you buy a sub with a noisy suspension, that doesn't help. This is a great example of that - link. This is one situation where a video of a sub isn't just plain stupid. This is a great display of a quiet suspension system.
The Exodus DPL-10 is one you should consider. A lot of home theater IB guys are picking up the 15" version and using it in very successful installs.
Robert,
Thank you very much for the information you have provided. I knew you don't like answering tech questions in PM and for that reason I posted the question in the mail forum.

Robert,
I like sub your suggested but only problem I have is that I need a sub which is rated at 4 ohms. I am currently running Kicker ZX750.1 amp with 2-10" Ported enclosure with dual 10" CompVR.
I am not really happy with set up and now I am starting to realize that I dont really care for too much bass so I decided to use my Rockford 4 channel amp which I am currently using it to my power my front / rear door speakers to also power one 10" IB sub mounted on stock location.
I am using Rockford Punch P450.4 to power Polk Audio DB6501 in front door and rear door. Now I will be using only two channels to do that and bridge other two channels and run a single sub from it. The bridged channel is stable at 4 ohms with output of 225 Watts.
I need your help in finding a sub that is rated at 4 ohms and also I am open to ideas for changing out my amp with something else because I can sell my amp to a friend.
