CD Changer dilemma

CD Changer dilemma
Here is my dilemma. The CD changer in my 1993 LS400 is skipping like crazy and doesnt like cd-r or cdrw discs. So i need to get a new CD changer. A reman from the dealer is out of the question.
But thats not all. The lease on my 1999 S10 pickup is due and I had bought a Pioneer GM fit CD player for it about a year ago that i need to take out. I really like this CD player and it has the IP-bus cable to control a pioneer CD changer. Some of you can see where im going with this!!
Anyways do I just buy an FM modulated CD changer and leave the factory system alone?
Or Do I dare take out the factory head unit, have a custom plate made for the odd sized hole in the dash, install the gm sized pioneer cd player and buy the pioneer cd changer that i can control with the pioneer head unit?
The Pioneer head unit model is DEH-P77DH
