Default Jl 8 inch w3v2 sub replacement questions

i received a jl sub for christmas as the person who got it for me knew my sub went out on my 04 ls

http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_s...p?series_id=19

that was the one i received. after doing research, i found that i shouldnt use a sub that has more than 40 watts rms.. this one for optimal sound is stating it needs 125watts. this is on the dual 2 ohm version. i dont want to replace the amp

my question is how would it affect my system if i were to install it and how would it sound? thanks in advance.

And why not? Where did you perform this research? Because it is not correct.

That means it will sould less than optimal when you turn the volume down? Because when you turn the volume down, you are not pushing as much wattage through the sub.

What is the impedance of the factory sub?

Depends on the factory amp. If your factory sub was an 8 or 16 ohm driver then installing this would overheat the amp and/or blow up the factory amp. If this sub and the factory sub are the same impedance then it should play without mechanical issue.

That's the big question. If the JL sub has a lower sensitivity, then it will not be as loud. If the JL has a lower Qts, there is greater chance that you will bottom out the sub with low bass notes. If the JL has less excursion than the factory sub, you have a greater chance of bottoming it out. It all depends on the Theile/Small parameters of the factory sub compared to the Theile/Small parameters of the new sub.
