Default Need some help w/ 01 GS 300 Head unit issue

I recently purchased a 01 silver GS 300, when i purchased it, i knew that it had a radio malfunction of some sort... the seller didnt know what the issue was... i was told that it was the head unit itself that was causing the problem, so i purchased a new head unit, come to find out, its obviously not the head unit...
this is what happens; all the lights and buttons work, volume, Disk, etc... but when the volume goes up, their is only static....... nothing else, even when i have a tape or disk mode selected..??? i pulled the head unit to confirm that all wires were installed, and they are.... but i dont know what else to do and this is REALLY ticking me off...
any advise would be appreciated...
btw i have an extra 01 GS 300 head unit that is in good shape for sale since i bought another one thinking the head unit was shot... fyi
thanx fellaz...

So can you hear the radio or anything? Have you check to see if you have speakers in the car? I know it seems simple but have you tried to turn the volume all the way up? Not trying to insult you just possible overlooked solutions.

Check your fuses it could be the fuse to the amp that is blown which can do that to your audio.

i'll check the fuses... i do get sound, the speakers only pick up static?... nothing else, i thought that it may have been no speakers too, but they are there,
Lexusaudio; if in fact it is an amp issue, what is an affordable solution to getting it fixed, i have had the car about 1.5 months with no radio!
