Porting through the arm rest?

I wanted to get your guys opinion on porting through the arm rest. I was always told it was best to fire the subs away from you meaning towards the trunk lid and not the back seat. Now, are there any differences in sound or any benefits to doing this other than cutting down on the rattling from the trunk lid?
Oh and by porting through the arm rest I don't necessarily mean putting the port in the arm rest, rather something similar to this:

The ported box would be build to JL spec of course. My concern is that the bass will not resonate as well as a sealed box would with this "blow thru" design.
box tuning effects it too, it effects the peak frequency and the frequency u want to set the X-over to so the sub doesnt unload from over excursion. That box looks like a 4th order bandpass box to me tho
