Default Remote car start on 5-speed?

So I went to the local ABC Warehouse today to get a remote car start for my car(92 SC300), but was told that they do not do remote car starts on five speeds and the only place that would do it would charge me out the a$$ for it($400+). I always thought not only that it was possible, it was fairly common, and shouldnt cost that much more. It is my understanding you just have to install some sort of a kill switch so that the car will not start when in gear, and will start without the clutch engaged. Is ABC warehouse right or are they just too lazy to install them on 5speeds?

They probably don't want the liability as most shops are the same way. Its not a safe practice. I have seen a car go through a garage door and one go over a ledge onto another car.
There are units out there that are made for manuals but most shops don't seem to mess with them.

yea..because just to start the 5spd, you have to press the clutch, which has a switch on there which will allow the car to start. a cheap, easy fix to that, though it may not be safe, is to tape down the switch located underneath the clutch pedal.

Its easier just to jump the wires. I have done it on several of my own cars but would never do it for a customer. Just not worth the risk of someone getting hurt.

i worked for circuit city and do all my own installs. ive had remote starts on my cars for over 3 years. i never leave my cars in gear, only on e-brake. i bypass the clutch switch by jumping the wires.

another thing you can do to prevent a run-away car is to wire the neutral safety switch wire, on DEI systems it black w/ white stripe, to your e-brake. if your e-brake is not up it wont even crank.

ive done it on friends car but never for a customer. you can never underestimate the stupidity of a common man.....or even worse, a woman. JK

Guys. this is not a danger if its done right. COMPUSTAR makes a standard tranny remote start. my shop charges 100 dollars more than regular for a 5 speed. you have to interface with the e brake, door trigger, clutch. your car still functions the same. it checks and knows that the e break is up and the car is still running when it saw you take out the key and close the door. obviously your car cant run in gear if you let the clutch out so it knows its not in gear. it isnt a liability issue for these shops if they install it according to the instructions then its their liability.
