Default remote start

Hey guys,
has anyone installed one of these themselves? Is it difficult? Is it just ignition wire tapping?

I want a remote start to warm up the car before I get in it.

Do they even sell *just* remote starts or do they all have alarms attached to them?

Thanks

EDIT: seems like this would do.. just don't install all the extra stuff. I ONLY want the functionality of remote start.

Thumbs up

Most shops that carry DEI have an offering for less than $150 that is JUST remote start, and that's installed. You WILL need a module (about $40-60, depending on how much they are trying to make), and if you use a 55XU, they should be able to program it and not lose a key.

Just out of curiosity, why don't you want aftermarket security with it? I've had factory systems on pretty much every car, and the aftermarket setups have far, FAR exceeded any/all capabilities I had prior to putting in the new system.

DEI? 55XU? Huh? With one of those I can use my OEM key fob?

haha

I don't want the aftermarket alarm cuz I don't need it. I keep my car safe to where an alarm making noise just isn't useful.

I have a Viper 5101. It's just a remote starter only. I did install it myself, you just have to find and know which wires to connect. I did keep notes. For our cars, you will need a bypass either with a spare transponder or a module that can copy the code.

I did start out with the LMS starter suggested above. It worked well but the transmitter range was stock. For me, I wanted increased range and to control my accessories. Now I can get ~1700' of the advertised range of 2000' with line of sight. I picked up one of these off ebay for $80 and with the transponder box will be ~20, so in the ballpark of ~100.

Now that I know it exists, I can't let go of using the OEM key fob to control it.

What'd you do with your old LMS kit?

It worked fine if you just want to start you car from nearby. You trigger it by pressing lock 3 times on the key fob. The range was what you got with your key transmitter. It didn't do anything else but you didn't have to carry an extra transmitter.

With the LuxLink, do you still get to keep all the factory options with the remote? Such as roll your windows up, down etc.. with the remote.

Yes, windows down still works. There is no windows up on Lexus (those Americans can't be trusted to not hurt themselves ).

Wouldn't that better be handled by a pressure limiting switch?

It's already there. Lexus just disabled the remote windows up. Like some garage door openers, if it get stuck rolling up the window, the window will reverse. Use the auto up and stuck you hand it in it.
