GS400 Midrange Speaker Upgrade Question
Hi all,
I searched but couldn't really come up with the exact answers I'm looking for. I have a 99 GS400 with the Pioneer stereo (non nav). I understand the stock speakers are 4" and are powerred by a stock amp (behind the glove box). I would like to upgrade my midranges while keeping the stock head unit. Do you recommend 6.5" all around? If yes, what brand and model? Would the stock amp be powerfull enough to drive them? The speaker adaptor made my "mbtechusa" is not available anymore, is there any other company that provides similar product?
Thanks.

I recommend 6.5" if you can do that. The stock amp is not really enough to power most aftermarket speakers. There are so many speakers out there that your budget plays a huge role. No one makes adapters for our cars as of right now. Only way is to get a shop to custom make them. Then again, I made and sold plenty of baffles for the front doors. Haven't gotten to the rear though because I never upgraded the rear (my rears aren't even connected).
Try Dynaudio MW160/162 for the midwoofer. 6.5 inch speakers. And don't forget a pair of MD100/MD102 for the tweets.
You will have a Mark Levinson killer in terms of sound QUALITY.
