I'm installing speaker on my sc (first time).
They are MBQ Q series 5 1/4. anyways, I modified the stock buffle so that speaker fits in the hole.
But I couldnt find any place for crossover so I cut the enclosure(box?). now door closes no problme but I made hole on enclosure(box). Was it ok to do it? cause I think the purpose of enclosure is gone. I just bought Dynamat so planning to close up the hole on enclosure(box).
Should I get stock enclosure from wrecked car and redo it agian?
It sounds good though.(lil bit bright).
Need some suggestion. Thanks

Taka,

I installed the same speakers in my GS300, I too had to open up the enclosure a little. I have yet to completely seal it. I was planning on going back and using fiberglass to seal it, but it sounds pretty good to me now. I might not mess with it. I have my tweeters set at -3db's because they too were bright

kool, so it was ok to do it I had never done this before so I had no idea what's good and what's not.
I have my tweeters set at -6db. I'll try -3db if it'll change any.
thanks

same here.. on my 93 gs300 i had to get the kit that came with the MB q and drill it onto the encloser then cut off all the extra platic around on the inside and the speaker went right it with a good seal. but my back speakers were a pain in the ***. i thought they were 6.5 so i bought some 6.5 speakers and installe it into the 5 1/4 door. haha. i had to carve out the door a bit but they fit well and looks clean. no enclosure on the back though. hey i wanted to know what's the difference between 0, 3, and 6 db is on the crossover. i just leave mine at 0. but on my head unit i turn the treble down to 0 or -1. but it goes from -6 to 6. 6 is WAY too loud.

The o, -3db, -6db deals with the amount, or decibel level that is used as you output to the tweeter. 0 is louder than -3, which is louder than -6

Not that I know of. I had the same speakers in my blazer, I had the tweeters in the dahs pointed toward the windshield and reflecting off. I had it set at 0. SOunded very similiar.

There's no real difference is actual sound quality performance. The -3db and -6db are just different resistor values to cut the current/voltage down. I always had mine set on -6db as they're a bit too bright for me.
