Default ??trim Rear Deck Sub Mount To Mount 12" Sub??

I AM TRYING TO GET IDEAS ON HOW TO MOUNT A 12" SUB IN THE STOCK 10" HOLE IN THE REAR DECK OF MY GS430. SO FAR EVERYONE HAS TOLD ME TO MOUNT A SPACER/BAFFLE UNDER THE 10" HOLE LOCATION. I HAVE TRIED THIS AND CANNOT GET THE BAFFLE/SPACER WIDE ENOUGH TO ACCOMODATE THE 12" SUBWOOFER. NOW I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF SLIGHTLY TRIMMING THE 10" SUB LOCATION WOULD WORK??? HAS ANYONE TRIED THIS??
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR IDEAS!!

I will be mounting my kicker 12 in my GS tomorrow and can take pics of the process if you can wait a day.

I wouldn't trim the metal area around the deck. You'll lose metal strength and the deck will resonate a bit more.

What kind of sub are you using? Not wide enough of a mounting area?

Thank you for help.....I have a pioneer 12" and have not tried to mount it from the top, so do not know if it would fit without triming the hole a little.. I would really like some pics of an install. I really need some help with this.!! Thank you!!

From the top you'll have to trim out LOTS of metal.

The spacer rings - just make them the same diameter as your subwoofer frame. 1 inch thickness, same area as the mating gasket for the sub. Then use sheetmetal screws to bolt it from UNDERNEATH the deck. Just make sure the screws aren't too long or too short.

There's not much to it.

Default mount 12" sub using spacers

I have tried using the spacers for a Pioneer 12" Sub. The ridges/angles on the underside of the deck relly get in the way and keep the spacer from fitting tight and sealed against the underside of the deck. This is a 2001 model GS. I had a 93 Gs and had no problem because there were no angles in the metal to prevent a tight seal. PLEASE SEND OR POST A PIC!!
Thank you for your help!!!

Use high density foam. Then MDF. Make it a multi layer sandwich design.

Foam gasket on one side, MDF on the other.

The foam would mount up under the deck, mdf would mount with the sub. Then use sheet metal screws.

I just used the foam and it works out great. You can use foam core posterboard - just build up the layers and use this as a gasket. Check out your local hobby or craft store.

Foam spacer is thin. You just want it to be a certain distance from the bevel so that the cone doesn't hit the bevel/metal frame when it's pushing a good note!

What sub are you using?

Here is a quick one I did. Normally I would use two layers of wood and the router to get a nice clean look but this will give you an idea of the easy way.

First mark out for your baffle. Mine was 15 X 14 inches. 15 going front to back.

Then cut it out. I notched the area around the center seat belt due to the size of the baffle.

Here is the baffle with a quick coat of paint and foam sealer.

The baffle mounted. I used 1.5 inch drywall screws for this.

Sub mounted and done.

When mounting the sub this way make sure you have your hole big enough for the surround to clear. You want to make sure you have the sub mounted center as well to avoid the surround contacting the baffle.

Thank You Kind Gentleman For The Wondeful Info!! I Guess My Only Questions Now Are Does The Sub. Need To Be Centered On The Stock Hole, Or Does This Even Matter. Which Method Would Be More Effective? Dentpusher's Big Baffle, Or Percy's Small Ring Baffle? Hopefully This Will Be My Last Question! Thank You Guys Again!!

I went with a big baffle to have better bracing and have more room to seal it up. You cant center a 12 in that hole due to the location. The sub will be far enough down and not blocked enough to cause problems.

Either way would work out fine! I just went with the gasket since it's easier for me to make. Sharp utility knife and a few pieces of foam board.

I left mine but will be laying some matting in it. Doesnt rattle bad but has its spots. Good time to do it when the rear deck is out.
