Hi, I just got an email from Sewell Lexus that Nav DVD version 7.1 is about to be released. Other than better map and POI data, anyone know what this upgrade is all about?

 

yeah i got that letter as well and tossed it out without looking closely. did it say when it was going to be available?

 

yeah, I'd be interested to know as well. I bought by IS 350 over a year ago, and haven't updated the Nav DVD yet. I don't even know what version I'm using... how do I found out if there's an update? Just call the dealership?

I emailed Sewell and got a response with this url. They said it was ok to post. I pre-ordered mine today with the pre-order discount. I didn't get last years though so I won't be doing the rebate.

 

Is there anywhere to see an online version of the maps to see if it is worth updating? (I.E. You can view the online maps with Garmin before you buy). I guess I could always go to a Lexus dealer and sit in one of the new 2008's vehicles and play around with the map in the vehicle to see but that is not as simple. Let me know.

Also, I know we bough a Lexus but the after market Map updates are around $75.. I wish we could get these maps to a $100 or $150 price point for self install. That would make me buy them every year!!!


Keeping my fingers crossed that the 7.1 version will re-introduce a way to disable all the legal/security protections built into the NAV while moving. (I know it won't happen but one can hope)...

 

Since I have 6.1 version, I can assume it's not worth to upgrade it now. Am I right?

 

I also have the 6.1 version. I have noticed some new landmarks that are not on the map. When did this version come out?

 

Hohlraum - check the Sewell rebate form in the link. You can also get a $25 rebate for either the 5.1 or 4.1 versions of the DVD.

 

Just preordered mine to bad they dont give a rebate on 3.1

 

I just preorder mine too, and will sell the old one on eBay for MUCH MORE than $40 !
