i have two 12's in my car now. my first setup was two 12's in a ported enclosure. i recently switched to the same two 12's but i a sealed enclosure. i wanted a better response and less boominess.

you probably had a tuning issue... port size plays an immense role in "boominess"

same fab-house.... wherever that is. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. The powerbase backplace has their name on it and theres that thin rubber boot around the magnet stack. So, PB just dresses it up differently.

From everything I've read, Powerbase makes their own subs. They just source some parts from TC Sounds or from TC Sounds supplier.

Other subs that have used the TC-9 motor:
Soundsplinter RL-p series
Elemental Designs flatcone A series
Entasi Audio 12"
Orion HCCA (older model)
Ground Zero (German models)
Kove Audio (older model)
and I think Stereo Integrity may use it as well but I'm not that familiar with their models.

i have a 10" jl w3 (sealed) in my sc... i like it just fine, but i don't listen to "bump bump bump" music...

plus it fits well where the cd player used to be and doesn't eat my trunk...

im on audiobahn 2.10s and 800w alpine amp....
kept the stock radio cdchanger.
one thing i did that improved bass...was remove the stock sub woofer
in the back seat it helped vent the base out of the trunk and faced the subs towards the inside of the car... bass is amazing but not vibrating as to wear ur body goes numb =)

The Powerbase subs are 100% sourced from china and come prepackaged. Whereas the TC Subs are assembled in San Diego California, and source parts from many vendors. Some parts may look similar because the tooling is the same. The quality of the TC will be higher because of the quality control and the grade of adhesives used on the voice coil to cone/spider neck joint. They also use a higher temp edgewound coil than the PB. Its hard to go wrong on hard parts such as baskets, pole pieces, and backplates.
I tend to prefer USA made over offshore, but Overall the PB is a good driver if the TC is out of your budget.

x2... Ive been impressed with the PB. So long as you have at least 3.5 cf to work with its a good sounding sub for the $$$. The PB coils start to overheat and smoke when you exceed ~500 W/each.... providing the adhesives don't fail first. They top off at around ~139-~140 db, somewhat less for street use. Ive heard about people getting more out of them, but I think those were uncalibrated mics.

I paid $87 for mine +$35 for S/H. The seller used it as his backup for a season. I'm happy with it.

Gonna hit it with 500RMS in an IB install for starters. If that doesn't work... its BIG box time.

Anyhooot...

I've currently got one 12" Infinity Reference. I had two for a while, but it was a bit overwhelming. I'm going to upgrade soon to something that can handle a bit more power, and my friend's gonna help me construct a fiberglass case for it.
