Which speakers to get?
Hey Everyone,
Just need some opinions on what rear speakers to get for my SC400. I am trying to decide between:
1.Boston Acoustics S45
2.Infinity Kappa 42.7i
3.Focal 100HC
I'm going just for sound quality, i don't need anything too crazy. I'll probably eventually change out everything in my stereo, so I'd like to keep it somewhat uniform. How important is it to have the same brand of speakers front and back? As far as i know Infinity an Boston don't make any 4" component sets for the front, but Focal does. If anyone has any other suggestions that would be great! Thanks guys!

Focal 100HC????
uhhhh, i think you may have the model number on that one mixed up.
the models of Focals are:
A1 - Access Components
CA1 - Access Coax
V1 - Polyglass Version 1 Components
CV1 - Polyglass Version 1 Coax
V2 - Polyglass Version 2 Components
KP - Polykevlar
K2P - K2Powers
W - Utopia
Be - Utopia Beriliums
regardless, i would go with focals. I have them in my car and absolutely love them
edit: forgot a few...but you get the point

I would get whatever matches your front speakers...
if you don't have front speakers yet, do that first... you want the majority of your sound stage in front of you, not behind...
also the mounting holes for the fronts can be enlarged to accept a 5.25" driver very easily (5 minutes with a dremel per side)...
see my thread here https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=234498
for the 5.25's I put in my car...

Doesn't quite matter to pair up speakers with front and rear. Are you going to power the rear off HU power? If so, just get the one's that draw the least power, since you won't be using most of it up anyways. Otherwise, I'd recommend the Focals.
Personally, I don't like or need rear speakers, but for those that do want them, it is a common guideline to keep them the same as the fronts...
Reasoning - You want your music to sound like you are at a theatre / concert, at least that's what judges at sound offs look for, and personally what I want it to sound like.. If you have different speakers front and rear, you will/could get a different type of sound front and rear, assuming you are using the same EQ scheme for both sets of speakers... Now, because most of us don't have separate EQ's for front and rear, you can't make different speakers sound the same or similar, depending upon speaker selection....
As much as manufacturers would like you to think that their frequency response is close to a flat line, it simply isn't, and different speakers will resonate differently in different cars, so, in car audio, we want it to be as similar as possible...
If you want the best, loudest, overall cleanest setup, invest in some horns from Image Dynamics, in conjunction with a true midbass... I'm ~real~ close to buying a pair for my car, but I want to test fit a set first... I had them in my 3000GT, and they are beautiful sounding speakers... the room they take up is somewhat of a pain though...
