Default navigation upgrades

I have a 2000 gs 400 with navi...I want to know if there is a way to upgrade the software. And i also wanted to know if there is a way to get a brand new instrument dash cause my buttons are starting to fade.....can anyone help me??

The 98-00 GS's used a hard drive based navigation system... you can get an updated hard drive from any lexus dealer for under 300 bucks. its easy to swap out. The newest version available is July 2004 (marked as the 2005 update). There isnt any other way to upgrade it, other than replacing the harddrive..

As far as the buttons, mine are faded as well... but the only option ive come up with so far is replacing the entire display.. it comes as an assembly. And thats just too expensive.

is there a difference in the upgraded hardware from the original version??

The entire hardrive is swapped out. Software is different, but primarily the maps and points of interest
