Default ? for those who have JL Clean Sweep

Bout to pick on of these up and I read somewhere that you have to use the volume control on the unit instead of the one on your HU. Is this true? and if it is then where are you guys installing the unit to where you have to adjust the volume, seems kinda cheesy to me that you can only adjjust the volume on this thing. The unit appears like it should be hidden away and not out where you can adjust the master volume. Thanks for any input.

The purpose of the JL Audio Cleansweep is to flatten the frequency response of the OEM headunit. Cars of today have built in DSP (Digital Sound Processor) that automatically adjusts the frequency according to one, if not all the following conditions:

1. Environmental conditions (higher the speed, louder the volume/more road noise, increase in volume)

2 Volume dependent- an increase in the OEM headunit may cause the DSP to automatically decrease low frequency, increase in highs, or etc.

3. DSP to suit the speakers- Such as our bose system in which the midrange frequency is increased (to comphensate for the lack of higher quality speakers), increase in the high freq. for the same purpose, and decrease in the midrange for a more "lively" sound.

Using the cleansweep will address problems number 3 if you use the Cleansweep volume control and will eliminate the affects of problem number 2. Using the OEM volume **** will eliminate problem number 3 also, but problem number 2 may not go away, which probably wont be noticeable if you listen to your music at approximately the same volume all the time.

So yes, you can use the OEM **** with the cleansweep. Just set the cleansweep volume **** all the way up and continue using the OEM volume ****. The only side-effect is a small boost in the bass frequency. How much it boosts by depends on what car you have, and quite frankly, no one knows until you try.

If you want the utmost linearity in the system, use the Cleansweep ****.

GSteg nailed it. You do not have to use the volume **** on the cleansweep but for maximum peformance you should. I have the cleansweep and I use the volum **** and it isnt bad at all.
To set the cleansweep turn the master volum **** all the way up, turn it six or seven full turns to be sure, then crank it back counter clockwiseone half of a turn.

One thing I have to tell you, DO NOT TOUCH THE OEM VOLUME **** ONCE YOU SET THE CLEANSWEEP. It will cause distortion and screw up the signal scensing.

Let me know if you have nay other questions.
