GPS / Navigation Options??
I'd like to replace my factory head unit with a GPS / Navigation system. I've seen some double din ones offered by Eclipse and Pioneer. I'd like to get a very clean looking fit and I'm hoping to avoid the single-din pop out models.
Does anyone have any recommendations or other models I should consider? Pictures of any would be awesome!!

The Pioneer AVIC-D1 is a double din unit and integrates very well with a car's interior.
Here's one pic of it in a GS:
Here's a closer up pic of the unit:
And last pic:
I don't think you can buy the AVIC-D1 in stores now as it is last years model. You can however find them on ebay for less than $1K.
I am familiar with this model because I have one myself. I am not familiar with other models that don't pop out like this one. I think the Eclipse ones are also similar to this one.

No, the faceplate is specifically for the GS. However in the case above the owner of this car upholstered the faceplate in leather.
On my car, (I will post pics later as I just installed it in my car), I did not bother covering the faceplate as it matches the rest of the console.

I love my AVN5435 in my SC. Looks stock with the factory black trim and it's real easy to use and it works great!! The only 2 complaints are a little slow when browsing around a large MP3 CD (DVD's are fine) and no 3D navi but the AVN5500 I think solve's the latter of these two problems!
My Digi is only 4 megapixel but the screen is def better res than my TV! I used ABS plastic on the bottom which looks even better in real life because there is a constant shadow below the navi so the texture doesn't even show up half as much as it does on these pics with the flash. But you can see how there are no gabs and the unit barely sticks out just enough to make it look stock. Even the backlighting is green like factory! What do you guys think? This was all DIY

that looks really good...
what all did you have to do to get it installed? i know there are no harnessed for the SC, so was it a pain? what did you use to mount it? do you have pics of it? sorry for the questions... thanks.

Stock volume *** is useless for now... and I did everything myself by epoxy and brackets to the stock radio bracket and then cut the wires I needed for the headunit itself and left the stock harnesses hangin in back and ran RCA preamps to an aftermarket amp and then wired that to the factory speakers. Oh and don't even bother with the AVIC model line they come with gyro sensors now so you can't use DVD or whatever when your driving. It's stupid! If I'm going to pay $1500 I want to do whatever I want when I want to. The AVN just required 1 wire to be grounded and that's all. I can use whatever I want whenever including PS2 AND xbox which are mounted in the trunk. Also play DVD's, use the navi, sirius, and CD/MP3's on DVD's. I'm able to put about 3000 songs/vids on about 6 dvds.

Anybody got pictures of a Navi unit in a first gen LS? I've only seen the flip out screen type units in the first gens. I want to do a double din install but I'm not sure it will fit. I'll go to BestBuy and measure one of the screens to see..
Thanks for all the pics - those look great!
Eclipse users - any particular reasons you chose Eclipse over the Pioneer?
Has anyone seen or have pics of the pioneer in an SC300/400? I'm curious if it will even fit!

size is universal...Single Din = Single Din, Double Din = Double Din regardless of the company.
pretty much anything will fit in the SC because it's around 2.5 Din or so.
I chose eclipse because I've been using them since I started with car audio and love everything about them. The Z1 unit is the only Pioneer I think is worth looking at, personally. I prefer the interface on the Eclipse.
