Default sub/amp install help

Hey guys I'm goin to have a 10" sub and amp installed in my 1997 ES300 tomorrow and have a few questions. I really don't have the funds to buy an aftermarket headunit at the time so I plan on having the shop install the sub/amp with my stock headunit. Some people have suggested that I don't use my stock headunit but what are the downsides if I do end up using it? From what I've learned it simply takes an adapter to use the stock headunit with sub/amp. Let me here your suggestions guys. Thanks

You dont have to buy an aftermarket radio to get great sound. Granted the step-down they are going to use is not ideally the best for audio quality but, you will be just fine. I put in stereo for a while so I can tel just by listening to the system what it has and needs to be done but your ear is more than likely not trained to pick up on things like that. You will be just fine. PM if you need anything.
