Default GPS Install - 98 ES300

Okay, well I've been searching the internet for helpful people and I have to say you guys are a thousand times more helpful than the people over at clublextasy and lexusowners club...so i thank you for that in advance.

So I need help with a few things in preperation install a Pioneer AVIC-N1 in my 98 ES300. if you can only help with even one of the questions anything would be appreciated! So without further delay, my questions:

When I spoke with an install shop they mentioned I'd have to bypass a pre-amp in order to install the unit. Where is the amp located and what do I need to do to bypass it? Do I need any additional parts in order to do so?

Also, where is the best place to go about hooking the unit into the VSS wire? I've heard just infront of the windshield under the hood as well as in the steering column.

What parts do I need to make sure I have in addition to what comes with the unit itself? Aside from the dash kit, I have yet to order any other parts.

I'm sure there will be more questions that arise, but that is all for now.

Thanks

Welcome to CL

This member tiguy99 has a nice write up regarding doing his audio setup for his 99 ES though.
Most of us prefer not using the factory amp/speakers for ease of installation and better sound.
Hope this helps, otherwise try to pm him for more information.
