tape player keeps spittin out tape?

tape player keeps spittin out tape?
i tried to use an ipod via tape connector in my Nakamichi equipped SC3, it'll play for a bit but then it keeps spitting out the tape! Has anyone had this problem w/ an adapter of this type? any kind of fix?
