i am currently running a jl12w7 to a jl1000/1amp. i am in the process of getting the JL XR components but i dont know what amp i will need for this particular component. I only want an amp from the JL line, so what do you think will be a good setup for this: 300/4, 450/4, 500/5 , etc? thanks
I have xr components up front and xr coaxials in the rear. I use a 300/4 and they sound good, no focal or other high end speakers but nice. Now you can use the 450/4, that is a very nice amp. I think the 300/4 will do though, I am happy with mine.
what head unit are you running? if this was my personal car, i would get the JL 450/4 then bi amp your front speakers and then run the rear speakers off the deck.
I would do the 300/4 for the XR components. I think the 450/4 might be a little too much power for the XR. I think the 450/4 would be better with the ZR components
I would go with the 450/4, you could always turn down the gain. And depending on what frequency the speakers are crossed over, it can handle more power.
I'm powering a pair of 4" Morel (100 wrms) with a PG 600.2ti (150 wrms x 2 high passed at 250hz) for a while now and it works fine. Before that I was using a pair of ADS 334is comp's it worked fine as well.
The 450/4 is actually different than the 300/4. The 450/4 puts out 150w x2 RMS for the front speakers and 75w x2 RMS for the rear speakers. Dont forget to keep this in mind. They do this so the rear speakers wont overpower the fronts and mess up the soundstage. Make sure if you get the 450/4 that you put something that can handle the power, even if you decide to keep it down.
XR's should be fine with a 300/4. Personally I'd rather go with the ZR's and a 450/4. I'm running my 130v2's and 130CV's focals off my 300/4 with ease, they sound great. I'd go with the 450/4 for aesthetically matching purposes
