Default Volume issue with Vaistech

I've installed a vaistech ipod unit in my 2005 GX. Easy to install and works great. Being able to use the steering wheel controls and having the playlist and song title come up on the NAV screen is great. Only issues are - with 63 playlists, it takes a while to get to playlist # 59, and the volume. The volume from the IPOD is about 50% of the volume of the radio or cd player. Does anyone else have this issue? I have sound check turned on for both the IPOD itself and the itunes software. Is it possible that the way I rip cd's causes this? Is there a recording volume control on ITunes (other than sound check)? Or is it an issue with the Vaistech unit? In reality if I turn the volume level on the truck to the max, the sound level is loud enough, but then if I turn to radio it's way too loud. I tried turning the sound check off on the ipod and turning up the ipod volume, but this seems to introduce more distortion than additional volume.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
