Separate Amp for Component Speakers?
I just got the 2 12" Type Rs and bought a Hifonics 1605D for them.
The thing is I forgot I may also need an amp for the component speakers? I have a head unit (Eclipse AVN 2454) with the following specs:
Eclipse AVN2454 Specs:
-Power Supply: 13.2V DC (11-16V)
-Current Drain: 3.5A (0.5W)
-Power Output: 50 watts x 4 (MAX)
-Lineout Output Level: 0.8V (0dB)
Should I have gotten a larger amp to begin with to power both my subs and my speakers? Or can I just power the speakers off my new deck? Or should I get a separate amp for the speakers? Thx.

You can do it either way, but you'll get better results with a separate amp. The headunit's 50 watts output is a 'stretched' spec - it's not as clean as a separate 50 watt RMS amp would be. This is usually because the 50 headunit watts are probably peak, not RMS. The equivalent RMS watts is likely about 20. Check your headunit's specs for THD % at rated power output, and compare these to an outboard amp that you might be interested in.
