Default Voice Amp Keep Shutting Off Help

Guys,

I had this problem for the longest now, but I never really knew what was the exact problem until today when I was putting in some new wires. When I would raise the volume up a lot my interior speakers would shut off leaving the subs thumping until they come back on (weird but there are a few songs that I could play w/ the volume max and the amp would never trip) . This afternoon I finally got my hands on some longer speakers wires and decided to rest the subs on the outside of the car & observe the amps. With the volume & bass on high my interior speaks went out which was not a surprise at all. What I noticed when the speakers went out the green light on the voice amp turned red which indicates the amp tripped obviously.

Here is the spec on both amp and Component Speakers, please let me know which you think I should replace & with what... (looking for something w/ a lot of mids)

Kicker KS-Series 05KS65.2 6-1/2"
Peak Power Handling: 150 watts
RMS Power Handling: 75 watts
Sensitivity: 88 dB
Frequency Response: 35 Hz - 21 kHz
Impedance: 4 ohms

Kicker 06ZX350.4

* 4-channel car amplifier
* 60 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms (90 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms)
* 175 watts RMS x 2 in bridged mode (4-ohm stable in bridged mode)
* Variable high- and low-pass filters (50-200 Hz, 12 dB per octave)
* Variable bass boost (0-18 dB at 40 Hz)

Thanks in advance for your input

whatsup man, what kind of power wires are you using? are you using one power wire to power up both amps or do you have two seperate power wires.

I am not certain which goes where first as the wiring process was done at a local shop (which is no longer in business) I do believe there is a splitter

sounds like you need a stronger 4 channel, as far as brand goes theres so many out there you would have to do the research.

Thanks David I really appreciate your input!!
The next thing i want to do is to troubleshoot all 4 interior speakers individually to see if there is any shortage...anyone have any suggestion on the best way go about doing this?

if theyre working fine at low volume, and when u crank them up they cut out. it just sounds like youre overloading the amp. most likely you just need a stronger amp that can supply your speakers.

as far as troubleshooting goes. unplug two speakers from the amp and then crank it up to the point where it used to cut out, and if it doesnt do it then change you need a different amp. just remember which wires go where and the position, unplug the front two first then unplug the back two see if it still cuts out.

I'm assuming you're using 2 amps of the same model, one in 4 channel mode for the speakers and the other bridged for the sub(s), right? If so, I would assume the sub amp would cut off as well because the subs will be drawing way more power from the amp than your smaller speakers yet it's not throwing the amp into protection. I have a feeling there's a short in the wirings somewhere. It's probably just 1 or 2 strands touching so at low volumes it's not enough to trip the amp but if you turn it up, it will.

I'd start with one speaker connected and then turn it up. If it doesn't cut off then disconnect it and connect another one. Repeat until you find the one that is causing the problem. Also make sure your gain isn't turned all the way up causing excessive clipping which can throw the amp into protection as well.

If everything checks ok but is still cutting off with 4 speakers connected you may just have a bad amp. Any decent amp shouldn't cutoff driving 4 speakers at a moderately high volume if the wiring is correct and driven within the amp's ohm limit.

Sounds like your 4 channel amp is going into protection mode. A possible scenario is that one or more of your interior speakers are on their way out. When you run them at higher power levels the impedence is dropping too low for the amp to handle. Start by checking the resistance of each channel at the spekaer wire where it connects to the output of the amp. But remember to diconnect the speaker lead from the amp first. All four channels should show roughly 4 ohms of resistance.
