Default Custom XM commander Mount

Well I finaly got tired of my XM commander floping around while I was trying to change stations, so I whipped up a custom mount underneath the crap jensen stereo the car came with.

Another reason to do this, was the Jesen was mounted ****ty, poking 1/2" out of the dash with the pocket on top, and a crap peice of 1/8" abs below it, that looked horrible.

After a little trip into work to get my tools, a stop at home depot racing to get some supplies It was on.

For the project I used:
Bondo: the ****ty kind you find at homedepot or walmart
Superglue: the 2 part that comes with an accelorator
Hotglue
Black Silicone
1/8" hard board
Rustolem Primer and Satin black
Green masking tape
Weather stripping meant for the bottom of a door

I started out buy cutting out the basic shape I would need, then sanding it down to fit perfectly. I glued 1/4" strips to the back of it up by the sides of the headunit to give it strength. Then I attached the black weather stripping to the bottom so that you don't see any ugly underside when you flip up the ashtrey lid.

A little bit of bondo and you get this. I attached the wood plate to the crap pocket with a small spacer in the center to give it some curve (just like the stock peice has).

add some primmer, and paint and you get this

The finished product looks somthing like this

I have to admitt it turned out pretty good for being a rush job, and for just taking a stab at what black would match the interior. In the future I may pull it apart, and spray it with some SEM texuture coat along with the face to the hvac pannel (which I didn't know poped off when I started this), that closely matches the finish of the outside trim peice. Too bad I some how manged to **** up the Jensen CD player just by taking it out, and burn out a couple of bulbs in the HVAC Cluster.
