Default Antenna Problems

Yes, I've searched the forums before posting this. The only solution that sounded reasonable is that I need to replace my antenna mast. Heres what happens, when I turn my radio on it went half way up and started making this horrible noise and stopped. The antenna went only half way up then the radio worked like usual. Once I turned the radio off, I could hear the motor trying to recontract the antenna back into "off mode" but the antenna stayed in the same postion (half way). I'm not sure what the problem is but I don't think its the motor seems how i can still hear it when I try to turn the radio on and off. Please help. Thanks in advance!

Dave:

The mast travel is not smooth and it could be due to kink/bend, lack of lubrication or even broken teeth in the gears.

I would suggest replacing the mast.

The cable that connects the mast to the motor has either snapped or stripped the gears. Replacing the mast will fix the problem. I happen to have the same issue! Just haven't gotten around to repairing it yet. TOO COLD!!!
