I recently bought a 2002 SC430 from my father. The Navi gives a disk read error upon start-up. I looked at the disk and attempted to clean it but it still doesn't work. I spoke with the dealership and they claimed to have never heard of the problem. They requested that I bring the system in. I am worried they will try to replace the system and charge me big $$$. Has anyone heard of a similar problem and possibly how to fix it. I am wondering if the DVD reader needs to be recalibrated.
Thanks,
CRB
Are you still under warranty? If so, call them up and be like my navigation isn't working right. It was fine all the time I've had the car but can you please check it out? They'll look at it and be like huh??? Then ask them to fix it under warranty or provide you with a replacement. Maybe the DVD rOM just needs a cleaning?
I couldn't find anyone local who wanted to mess with my DVD. I ended up buying the updated disk from Sewel in TX (I got 10% off with the code CL911M for users of this site ) They sent me an attachment that contained information on which cars have which generations of DVD players and one that described how to change out the DVD in the different lexus cars. I attempted to cut and paste this link but it didn't work for some reason. I am certain if this information is of interest to you you can contact them and request it.

Is it working now? I'm thinking of backing up my DVD for my Denso/KEnwood Navi and keeping the original in a safe place just in case. You may want to do the same. Hope we're not violating any copyright laws by doing so. My DVD Rom didn't say I couldnt' on the warning label so I'm going for it.
