Stereo install question - Need help
Hi All,
Has anyone ever installled a line level into a 1999 LS400? I have a factory Pioneer Stereo System with integrated door pod speakers. The factory amp is located under the passenger seat.
Currently we are installing new stereo into my LS. We replaced all 4 door speakers, replaced the factory sub with custom sub enclosure. We are currently having problems with the line level output.
We have been told that the amplifier wants to see 8ohms from all 4 speakers at the same time. If any are disconnected the the factory amp seems to shutdown all four speakers. Has anyone seen this and know of a workaround?
More data:
We have the line level installed directly off of the amplifier output side. We believe all of the wiring is correct and tested. We have the Lexus wiring diagrams for car which has guided us along. We also tried simulating the 8-ohm impedence to the speaker with an 8-ohm 22 watt sancast resistor - With no luck trying to trick it.....
We also tried using the low level output from the factory H/U with minimal success. Its seems to be a fixed volume which we cannot be adjusted. It appears that the amp performs the volume adjustment from the input side to the output side.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
eDiddy

yes, what LLC are you using?
Audiolink Powerlink II is good.
Also check out my other thread on other LLCs:

How did you hook in the resistor?, you need the eqivalent speaker impedance across all outputs. If you do this properly, it should work, but I still wouldn't leave resistors in there, it should be just a test case.

I ended up taking the easy way out and replaced the factory headunit. Therefore taking the factory amp out of the equation. I'm not sure what LLC's the installer was using but I'm sure we could have gotten it working by going with the suggested LLC.
I orignally didn't want to replace the factory HU but the shop said that I could turn it in next year for full credit towards my dream one(an eclipse avn5495). I ended up putting in a pioneer deh-80mp to hold me over It plays mp3's which is pretty cool. I can rip a few CDs on to one CD now which kind of eliminates the need for a cd changer.
Anyway thanks for the help,

im trying to find out specs on 1999 ls400 amplifier. I replaced the head unit with double din touchscreen but cant run the unit off the factory amp. Music is flat. So im trying to see what the specs are so i can duplicate it with a aftermarket amp. I know a ton mechanically about cars but absolutely nothing about audio for them. A lil help would be appreciated..thanx
