Default Beeping sound in speakers? Sounds like morse code...

Well as some know, I got my car rolling this week. Runs like a dream to me since I have not owned any nice imports before. I noticed in the past few days that I hear a beeping sound from the speaker as I am driving that almost sounds like a morse code kinda thing. I try to press on the gas to see if tone changes like maybe it is engine related or feedback. No change. it is almost the same tone sequence every time. Might be the radio itself, or some minor wiring issues. I am unsure. I have tried to see if it location related to some place in town but that is not either. I have read the tsb on the AM radio station deal, but don't think that is it either. Any ideas? Thanks

cellular phone activity makes funny morse code sounding sounds out of your speakers. probably it especially if you live in an area where cell phone use is heavy.

I feel that this is probably what it might be. Seems to happen in two parts of town it seems. And the sounds seems to be the same at every place. I will see if this is true in the next couple of days.

Thanks

Do you happen to be listening to NPR (National Public Radio) when you hear this sound? I occasionally hear a Morse code-like sound (rata tat tat tat tat tat) on my Nakamichi in my 2000 LS but only when listening to NPR. It happens whether I am listening to NPR on a local station or when traveling north through Iowa or east into central Missouri. The sound and spacing of the sounds is always exactly the same. I once brought the sound to the attention of the dealer but they had never heard a problem like this.

I finally realized that it was a "feature" of NPR when when I borrowed my wife's "walkman" style radio and heard the same sound while listening to NPR in Phoenix last summer.

Maybe it happens on other radio stations and networks but I have noticed it only on NPR -- maybe because NPR is mostly "talk radio" with little music. I think I have also very occasionally heard the same sound during quite music passages while a CD was playing.

Well I have to try it when listening to a CD and go through the same area. Try to see if it it coming in via the antenna or produced internally by the car.... Will keep you all posted soon.

Thumbs up

Well I found out what causing the morse code in the radio speakers.. I kept my cell phone in the ashtray since that is the only place it was easy to put in. Well as the phone was "communicating" with the cell towers, it was interfering with the radio reception. Now I keep the phone above the radio console or in the passenger seat. No more static. YEAH!!! Well now it is off to repair the infamous sunroof noise/gasket leak and the no-worky cruise control.

Thanks for the input guys

Very interesting! My cell phone car kit's phone holder is on a Pro-fit style bracket right next to the radio in my LS so that probably explains why I am hearing the sound. And of course I had my cell phone on my belt when I heard the same sound on my wife's Walkman radio in Phoenix last June. But I never seem to hear the sound on either radio when in the Kansas City metro area so there must be some specific "feature" of phone service causing it.
