There's nothing in the way- I installed a 6.5" 3-way Infinity Kappa in that position with no problems. Once you pop off the flexible rear trunk panel you'll see what I mean. The woofer, as you may know, is a whole 'nother issue though, due to the gas tank.

You may wish to disable the tweets to preserve the imaging, although I did not bother.

6.5" Kappas with no modifications to the stock speaker bracket at all? I installed kappa 4"s back there and they did look much wider than the fronts. Did you have to enlarge the hole to let the bigger magnet on the 6.5"s through?

Default I said "no problems", not "no modifications".

I did have to drill one or two new holes for the shifted position of the mounting screws. That was a tad tricky, since I had to manuver the drill into a tight area and not scratch the window defroster grid. I also had to fabricate a gasket ring out of some foam. These kind of things should be expected when upgrading speakers.

I measured that hole to be 4.5", so if your Kappas are smaller than that, you're good to go. Mine are, but they are from the 90's- the current generation may be larger.

Gotcha

In your opinion, do the 6.5s make a significant difference back there? I have the 4s and honestly I don't think they do much for the sound stage, some rear fill (which is to be expected I guess). You have 3-ways though, so I was wondering if you could hear a distinct difference

Sorry about the thread hijack...kinda

I only put in one 6.5 Kappa because the original stock 4" speaker failed. The other speakers did such a good job of covering up for their failed partner (I have the Nakamichi option) that I didn't even notice it for weeks until I fiddled with the balance controls !

So I'm unable to quantify the difference except to say I think the stock Nak sounds great, and still does with one driver upgraded to a 6.5 Kappa.
