I was JUST talking abou this on my way to work this morning! I have a couple ideas but they aren't tested. I was wondering why I can hear the traffic now when I couldn't before. I checked my seal and the weather stripping is torn. I'll replace it and see if that makes a difference -but I want it even quiter.

Here's what I was thinking: remove the seats, pull up the carpet and lay down accoustic foam or Dynamat Xtreme. Then Dynamat the underside of the hood and the firewall. Dynamat is HEAVY but it works! I'll probably do these in the summer right before i get the carpet cleaned.

If anyone has tried these methods, let me know.

I just used the SecondSkinAudio Damplifier stuff. AWESOME! Just as good as Dynamat Extreme, and cheaper.

has anyone gone the liquid route? The article seemed too much like a plug for liquid so i wasn't too convinced about an unbiased opinion/review. On the other hand, the whole asphalt smell thing worries me, especially w/ the hot and humid summers here in jersey.

I'm planning to sound deaden my car to 1) isolate road noise 2) possibly plan for an audio upgrade (probably nothing more than 500 watts).

I have a question too. Does anyone know how to remove the panel to the overhead cabin light? Mine vibrates on certain low frequencies. Also, does anyone else Sunroof rattle? Maybe my car is just getting old ...

At this point I HIGHLY recommend the Second Skin Damplifier over other products, including Cascade, RAAMMat, & Dynamat Xtreme - Second Skin seems to have the best price/performance. It is easy to cut and apply, and is VERY similar to Dynamat Xtreme. It has worked out very well for me.

Hmmm. So is there a way to not have the trunk rattle and have it give off the boom to the outside? It's nice to boom the hell out of certain people sometimes

Another thing, I wish I can afford a lexus
Anyone want to trade their lexus for my 99 camry le v6?

According to the sound deadener showdown, Damplifier (and Damplifier Pro) perform better and is cheaper than Dynamat Xtreme. (They all supposedly perform expnonentially better than anything else on the market). However, you can find Dynamat Xtreme for cheaper on eBay than Damplifier sells for retail. I personally have not been able to find Damplifier Pro for cheaper than what Xtreme sells for on eBay. Either way, you won't go wrong with any of the three.

Default Sound Deadening in 07 RX400h

Has anyone had the door panels or rear tailgate panel off an 07 RX?

I'm curious to know how much insulation is in the doors from the factory and if adding dynamat extreme to the doors and rear tailgate would make a worthwhile difference. Lexus supposedly increased sound deadening in the 07 model year on this vehicle, but I haven't found any specifics as to where it was added.

To me, the RX is noticeably less quiet inside than my GX470. One thing I notice from the outside, is that when the stereo is turned on, even at a low volume level such as 8, the amount of stereo noise/music that you can hear from outside the vehicle is significantly higher than in the GX. The vehicle definitely isn't as quiet as the GX from the inside either...

Thanks,
Jim

Default The very best sound absorber is 3M Thinsulate Acoustic Insulation

Trouble is I can't figure out where to purchase it. Anyone have any ideas?

Walmart and fabric stores carry the type of Thinsulate (100% polyester based) used to make winter clothes and blankets, but not the type to insulate cars; i.e. Thinsulate Acoustic Insulation (a high density 70% polyolefin / 30% polyester combo product). A major difference.
