I have this amp: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...709453073&rd=1
to go along with my JL 10IB4 .... I'm also using a line out (to RCA) converter thats coming off the stock sub-amp (to maintain the low frequency and cut the highs)
what do you guys think?

Hmmm...
You might want to invest in a nicer amp, Pyramid tends to be overrated and is not the most reliable. There is no way that amp will put out 240w. Not trying to be a dick, but you get what you pay for. Another thing to look at is wiring, you will need power and speaker wires in addition to the RCA converter. What kind of car do you have? Any budget guidelines?

lol, a $7 amp..come on man, thats pretty bad. I really dont know what to suggest, but I would love to know what you are you gonna do. Im planning on doing a similar thing to my SC3 sometime soon. Free air 10" sub with an aftermarket amp powering the sub...and updating the speakers but leaving the stock amp powering those. What are you planning to do?

haha... well i didn't get that exact one... i actually got the amp for free from a friend... i just figured ebay would be the easiest way to show you guys...
my plans for my SC300... basically just to put that IB4 sub and call it a day. I'm leaving all my others speakers alone.
Will the amp make a big difference in how it sounds? I've installed everything already as a matter of fact... i just used the power and ground off the stock factory amp. It sounds okay... i'm not satisfied... if i turn it up.. it sounds nasty...
think this might be because of the amp?

There are a lot of amplifiers out there would suit your subwoofer just fine.
Something to keep in mind. you drive a lexus
Don't go putting that amplifier in that car
I'd say the first thing to nail out is price range. Do you have one or just want a solid few hundred watts for the 10IB4.

Price is a factor (i'm in college)... not looking for anything extravagant... I just want something that matches the sub so it'll sound better.
Will wiring the amp straight to the battery sound better? I figured it either gave it enough juice or it didn't (on/off)

anyone concur regarding the mentioned amp in the link?
what about that thump amp?
also... the way I've got it right now... is since i have stock headunit... i'm just using the line out converter... taps off the output of what use to plug into the stock sub... and converts it into RCAs. I figure this way I've still got a highfrequency filter that the stock system provides.. so i maintiain the clean bass.
the current amp i'm using... i've got bridged... and when i turn it up (either the gain or the bass... or even volume) the sub sounds like its just "bottoming out" sort of speak... just sounds nasty likes its ready to break.
thanks guys...

IMO. stay away from the thump amplifiers.
That web site works just like ebay. So anyone can be selling anything their.
PPI is a good name, that amplifier for sale is a very proven little amplifier.
What amp are you currently using. If your experiencing a large thump it's very possible your experiencing clipping as using that line level converter can often effect the voltage the amp see's and more or less choke it.

i'm running that same 7 dollar one off ebay haha...
yea... i'm not sure if it's the amp isn't strong enough for the sub... of if it's the line level converter.... i actually have the line level turn almost all the way down and letting the amp do the work.
anyways... if you guys still think it's the amp.. i found this.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=5707644109
what do you guys think of that one?
also... maybe its just me... maybe i'm expecting too much from this sub? but... i'm pretty sure I was able to turn up my stock sub up almost as loud without distorting.
going back to that line level converter... i have plenty of friends running one.... and their systems sound bada$$ .... then again they're all running L7s in a huge box...

kaos... in terms of power... would i be better off with the PPI? I only ask because if i read the specs correctly... that amp puts out 250watts bridge mono at 4 ohms.... the 10IB4 is rated at 8ohms... so i'd really only have about 125watts correct?
i'm starting to get ideas of building a false floor with like a 15 or two 12's or something now...

damnit and yuck yuck.
I was assuming 4 ohm svc. My bad. That is a little on the low side.
Let me call JL quick and confirm the coil that sucker and I'll post again.

Ok. Few minutes on the phone. I was actually overestimating the driver a little bit.
Believe or not but actually running the lower power just over 100 watts is more ideal than the 250 I originally took a look at (huge thumbs up for catching me on that 8ohm thing, i was recommending too much power).
From the looks of it your speaker after a few minutes actually looking at it (haven't been too familiar with the IB line from JL). You've got a suspension and overall assembly that just doesn't need much power to get moving. It doesn't have a ton of throw and in a IB set up you DON"T need a lot of power to get the driver stroking good.
The PPI @8ohm would be a darn good match for it afterall.
