Default 92 sc400 Keyless remote

I bought a used 92 sc400 that is missing the remote. Can anyone tell me what type of remote I need? (key w/button..or seperate remote). Is there a way to determine which ones will work? And if so how is it programmed? The dealer want $230 for a remote..I can get an aftermarket alarm system installed for less. I see people selling remotes for about $30. What's the real story...thanks Steve

Just go for an aftermarket one, the stock one on the 92 doesn't do much.

I think the story is the keyless entry computer has a ROM card installed in it that mates to a master key. You need to buy the key and the ROM together. Obviously you can't reprogram the ROM and you can't change the radio frequency of the key. At least that's the way it is in the 1st gen GS from what I've read. Maybe there's someone that can go into more detail...

It's impressive that they went to so much trouble and expense on a factory alarm.

Go with an aftermarket alarm, you'll like the options.
