Default Escort 8500 radar hardwire

Hey guys - I just bought a Escort 8500 X50 Radar Detector (long story but I bought it over the V1 cuz I got a hell of a deal on it).

Anyways, I have an IS300 WITH navi (so no compass in the mirror) and was wondering if I can tap into the power to the auto dimming mirror to hard wire my radar into my car? Anyone done this? Pics?

Thanks in advance!

It can be done, but I don't know what wires to tap into for IS300. Might want to check www.IS300.net. Here are a couple threads on mounting radar detectors, including pictures of my Escort SoloS2 mounting.

Thanks! Unfortunately, I did not find anything on is300.net. I searched every radar forum!!!! NO specific details on which wires to tap for the auto dimming.

Anyone have any idea?

Also, can I just use a regular phone cord? Or do I need to buy the one from escorts site for hard wiring?

I wouldn't use a phone cord unless you are extending the distance between the detector and power source. I'd go with the Escort fused hard wire adapter or smart cords. If you want want dash remote warning LED and ON indicator + the ability to mute from your dash, I'd get a remote smart cord. If using a remote smart cord you can steel the power from behind the dash or fuse box. Only problem with this install would be running the wire up your A piller.

Sweet! Thanks for the info...

I'm not gonna get the wire with the remote display simply because I don't wanna screw with running stuff up my A pillar because of the airbag....
