Default Carbon Fiber Door Scuff Plates

Hello Everyone,

I'm having the carbon fiber door scuff plates repainted, and for the section that has the matte/flat finish and doesn't have the word "Lexus" on it, which type of clear coat finish do you think it would be...flat, matte, eggshell, satin, or semi-gloss? I recall for this section of the scuff plate, the original texture and feel of it was "matte" like, but it had some sheen or "shine" to it as well. Please let me know your thoughts, I greatly appreciate your help. Thank you.

By the way if it makes a difference, it's for a 2021 Lexus LC500 Convertible.

Just curious why you would do this mod? The carbon fiber door scuffs are a $2000 option and why not sell them and buy non- carbon ones ( $300) ones you can paint. Seems like a waste of a carbon fiber piece.

Hi Dave, I'm not modding them, just want to repaint them to match the factory finish. Originally I accidently polished the matte section (they became shiny) while trying to remove some scratches on the high gloss section. Long story short, ended up repainting both scuff plates the first go-around but they were no good, therefore I'm having them repainted again.

I think you are off one order of magnitude on what those carbon fiber scuff plates cost.

Hi Dave, sickpuppy, Metal1 is correct, they are $5,000 a piece, surprising to me as well! I think the $600 option referred to by sickpuppy was an add-on option when purchasing the car new.

Yikes… I’d just leave them then. Their scuff plates. I don’t even notice mine. I don’t even think I took the plastic wrapping off mine yet.

It amuses me when some folks change the meaning of words sometime Like when the meaning of "option" suddenly changes to "buy from Lexus Boutique"

so perhaps you're not rePAINTING them, just re-finishing, and adding a clear coat?

as sickpuppy said, they're 'only' a $600 option when getting with the car. but you're on the right track, that to buy the parts separately, is thousands, as metal1 pointed out.

In fact, I'm actually getting mine redone by a carbon fiber manufacturer. He's just going to remove the scratches (on the matte finish portion) and get them refinished in matte again. Cost for both sides together = $500.

yes, sorry that's what I meant, re-finishing them with clear coat (which clear type of matte coat finish was the original question)

Guanche, so the matte fininish portion is actually matte and not eggshell? Usually in general, the paint finish from low to high sheen are: flat, matte, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss. I'm stuck on whether it's matte or eggshell...
