2022 LC 500 custom/bespoke order canceled?
Hi all,
We custom ordered 2022 LC500 through our local Lexus dealer (Oregon, US) on 10-21-2021. Dealer took a deposit, and told us that it would likely take 4+ months for our order to arrive.
We got a call from our sales manager this afternoon. We were told that Lexus had decided to put a hold on processing custom or bespoke orders (placed by customers) until May 2022. We were told we had two options;
1- Dealer will try to secure/find an incoming allocation close to our custom order.
2- Dealer will hold our place in custom order line, and process our order when(if) Lexus starts accepting custom orders in May (or after).
It is surprising and confusing as Lexus just released the configurator (US) for the bespoke build about 2-3 weeks ago.
We talked with Lexus customer service representative, and we were told that they were not aware of such changes at this time. We don't know what to make of it.
Just wanted to check with this community if anyone with an active order received a similar call from their sales manager?
Thanks.

I’ve bought a few new Lexus vehicles (including their 2021 LC Convertible Inspiration Series last year) from them, though.

sounds to me like the dealer wants you to buy something sooner.
if lexus is telling you that's not the case, i'm even more suspicious.
remember, dealers will say ANYTHING to 'move a sale along'.

Indeed, we find it very confusing.
We traded in our 2020 Jaguar I-Pace as part of our negotiations. I stopped by about 3 weeks ago to pick up the check for our trade in and chatted with general manager. He told me that they just emailed copy of my identification because Lexus asked for it to be attached to our custom order. We were told about 2 months after placing the order, we should expect to get order acceptance confirmation from Lexus, then build date, shipping date, arrival date etc would follow.
We do recognize that supply chain issues can lead to delay in production. However, even if Lexus just decided to put custom/bespoke builds on hold, we would have expected our order to still follow the course as we placed our order about 6 weeks ago. Earlier today our dealer refunded our deposit. We didn't ask for the refund, they said they don't want to keep the deposit as they were unsure when they would be able to fulfill our order.
We'd greatly appreciate if anyone recently placed a custom/bespoke order could share their experience here.
I will contact Lexus customer service again tomorrow to get clarification on what is actually going on.

I placed my order towards the end of July 2021, albeit was not for a Bespoke edition but a standard coupe with a particular exterior/ interior color combination.
I had a phone call from the dealership 3 weeks ago stating that the vehicle had a VIN, was about to be placed on a boat in Japan and I will have it by Xmas.
It will have been a long 5 months waiting for the vehicle, if it actually arrives when it is supposed to. I will not be surprised if it does not arrive now until Jan 2022.

I have an appointment here in Canada tomorrow afternoon to place my order for a bespoke coupe. I spoke to the dealer yesterday and they did not mention anything about being cancelled/delayed and were looking forward to placing the order on Wednesday. Will follow up here once I get back from the dealer tomorrow.
If you have the money and want/need the car asap, take the money somewhere else. Although the ordering process and wait time is likely to be the same.
If you really want an LC500 and want to have it now, get online and make a few phone calls and get the vehicle delivered to you.
I’ve stopped looking and harassing my dealer for the past 2 weeks on ordering a Bespoke build. I figure if they’re ready to take my money, they will call. I’m in no hurry and next May/June 2022 will be better for me(it’s winter here). If for some reason, Lexus decides to cancel the LC500, there’s still plenty of certified used.

Did the dealer allow you to do a bespoke build in a '22 convertible? My impression from the bespoke announcement was that it was only for coupes with the sport package:

Available for the coupe and hybrid, Bespoke Build is a new customization program for LC buyers. All LC Bespoke Builds are based on the Sport Package, but buyers can tailor their style with exterior design items like wheels, spoilers, and roof finishes, while the interior can be fully customized from an array of bespoke finishes. An all-new Manhattanhenge interior color is exclusive to Bespoke Build. Features like the carbon fiber air wing spoiler and 21-inch forged alloy wheels with Black finish were previously reserved for the Inspiration Series but can now be added to a regular LC.
