Default Paddle shifters

Question, when I have my car in manual mode and I'm at a complete stop, if I floor the car when it hits redline it shifts into the next gear. Is this normal? If I do the same thing in my Ferrari the car will not shift into the next gear no matter what. Bounces off the Rev. Limiter and u have to shift. Thanks

Default Paddle shifters

Question, on manual mode using paddle shifters my car will shift itself from 1st gear to 2nd gear. This happens from a dead stop using manual mode and paddle shifters. On my Ferrari, it will hold the gear no matter what. It let's you know real quick when it hits the Rev. Limiter. Is this normal?

sure enough, bob, your lexi is smart enough to shift itself, to protect itself

I'm not sure if that's the case. I know mine will bounce off the rev limiter. Now I have to double check if it does it off of 1st into 2nd (meaning bouncing off of 1st gear) or will only do it once I go into the higher gears.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I swear this car always held first gear no matter what. If u held first gear to red line it would bounce off Rev limiter and would not shift until you went into second gear.. Now as stated above, it will shift itself from first gear to second gear automatically In manual mode.

you may not be sure thats the case, but in fact, that is the case, from p 160 of the owner's manual; the next word is "... engine..."

just wondering why you want to thrash the car in 1st gear, banging off the rev limiter repeatedly?

The LC500 reviews on YouTube by SavageGeese and TheStraightPipes show that the car will let you bounce off the rev limiter - so it's definitely possible to do that. Perhaps that logic is controlled by the mode you're in? In comfort/eco mode it'll auto upshift, and in sport/S+ it'll hold gear? Just a guess.

As for why you would want to do it... hitting the rev limiter for a split second before shifting does sound pretty nice in this car, as demonstrated in those videos.

assume it's just because the fuel is being cut off to the cylinders causing misfires and exhaust burbles.

It is the ECU shutting off spark to the plugs and/or injectors to not allow the engine to rev higher than the programmed limit.

It is a very unnatural sound to experience.

Have you been in cars with Launch control? Some sound very similar to the overrev cutoff, probably hold the rpm at a constant level by similarly retarding spark.

A lot of theatre to experience when that rev limiter holds it until you release the beast.
