Thumbs up Everyone Else is Doing It...

I guess I should do an intro too, I also need to get my post count up to post to the marketplace. I've been eying the LC ever since I saw it, but needed that price to get into the low 70s, high 60s before I could pull the trigger. Finally got my 2018 LC 500 in caviar with rioja red interior. It has the LSD, touring package, convenience package, all-weather package and HUD. I usually know what I want without testing driving due to the amount of research I do. To get what I wanted at the price I wanted I had to drive to Ohio to grab the car. Just as I thought, I love the car. Waaaaaay too much fun to drive. I swear I've been working from home for the past year and I pretty much use DoorDash, Uber Eats and Amazon for everything so I rarely leave the house. With this car I feel like I'm finding excuses to go run errands. I've owned a number of brands and a lot of cars over the years. I'd say the only other car I've loved this much was my Mercedes S550 Coupe. This was my first Lexus as I've always found them to be boring. The last time I loved Lexus was in the 90s with the GS back when their slogan was "The relentless pursuit of perfection". I would echo the other complaints found on this forum with the LC. That touchpad is a pain in the ***, though I am getting used it. Not in love with the HK system either. I'm going to figure out a way to replace that factory sub in the backseat with something else.

Some of the vehicles I've owned in the past... The S550 Coupe and the LC are definitely my favorites. The Volvo S90 T8 Inscription is a bit of a sleeper, I loved that car as well, especially the technology. While it had over 400hp, Unless you were in sport mode to take advantage of the hybrid engine and 4cyl turbo-charged and super-charged engine those 4cyls made the car sound like a cheap Toyota and it just drove weird. The brakes were also a major point of contention, it was impossible to come to a smooth stop because of the regenerative brakes. I did enjoy the gas savings but I'd much rather put out on gas and hear that exhaust note from the LC.

Volvo S90 T8 Inscription
Mercedes S550 Coupe
Mercedes GL 450
Mercedes CLS
Mercedes CL 550
Mercedes C Class
Porsche Panamara
Jaguar XJL
Audi Q7
VW Phaeton
Infiniti JX35
Infiniti G37
Acura CL type S
Dodge Durango (used as second vehicle, complete garbage)

I'm also selling the original 20" wheels which have brand new Bridgestone tires if anyone is interested message me. My garage looks like a wheel warehouse so the price will be very good as I need to clear out those and other wheels.

Your LC is pictured with 21” wheels. Did you replace the 20” with those? Or are you intending to sell the wheels & tires in the picture? Just curious as the wheels pictured are the same as on mine, which are 21”.

I do love the unicorns. I really like to own cars you don't really see on the road. The Phaeton while way ahead of its time was one of the least reliable cars next to the Q7 I ever owned. I drove a loaner more than I drove the Phaeton. Constant electrical gremlins. Every day I crossed my fingers and hoped no dash lights would come on. It was like an arcade when you got in. Lights flashing and beeping. Back to the dealership again

Did you mean the ML (Mark Levinson) system? If so, there were some complaints from other members over here - I can definitely share some mild disappointment in the sound. Mine is more about how the system seems to have more sound coming from the front and almost none in the rear. Nonetheless, still phenomenal vehicle and good enough system to keep it OEM.

Agreed love the car and I probably won't bother messing with the sound at least not until I've enjoyed the car and feel comfortable tinkering with it.

LIMS: Thank you.

Overall it’s better than a lot of cars in even much higher price range.

The complete inability to achieve anything like surround sound is pretty unusual this day and age. Actually the past twenty years. The sub could definitely be sturdier too.

That's because the ML system is designed for audiophiles. The correct staging for music is supposed to be, well, stage-like. That is, most of the sound comes from the front, while only some reverberations are heard from the back.

Think about it, when was the last time you went to a concert and the band is all around you? Surround sound is for movies, not for music.

Old argument.

Depends on what you are listening too. The point is that sound systems can easily be made adjustable to provide that stereophonic sound stage or surround as the driver and passengers prefer. The inside of a vehicle is very different acoustically from a concert hall.

I get it, old school stereo is a part of my home setup, McIntosh amps and Klipsch classic speakers. But we have 5.1 for a range of listening situations. A lot of sources are mixed this way for the past 40+ years.

That we are even discussing it points out how unusually Lexus have done their set up in the LC. Just about every car out there has built in ability to adjust the sound stage. Even presets to determine various surround options. The 12 speaker Bowers and Wilkins system in our 720 was honestly lacking in dynamics, but had a preset option that focused to the driver that was nice, to my ears. I like it to feel like the music is originating from between my ears, not a dash and windshield.

FWIW, the left-right separation (in the front) is far more distinct in my LC 'vert than in any car I've ever had, and I've had many.

Hmm, I'm not sure what point you're trying to make? Are you saying that because it's a car, you prefer a different staging? I'm not a purist by any means--I personally don't like the high on sibilants and low on bass sound that audiophiles prefer, for one. I'm just trying to explain why the ML stages the sound the way it does.

Just that I prefer having options to adjust the soundstage more than the LC allows.

I’m fine with the system overall though. One of the best oem systems I’ve heard. Floats my boat well enough, and always have folks feel that very nice volume control. So smooth.

I can definitively get with that. I don't know if thr newer LCs have more options but my '14 RX and' 17 RC don't even have EQ, and no native FLAC support. It's pretty annoying having to work around the entire infotainment system from navigation to music.
