1) is lane departure / lane keep assist on by default or off? I let the car drift a bit and saw no attempt to keep it in lanes whether on or off? Maybe i'm doing it wrong.
2) what's with the passenger airbag warning staying on all the time?
I believe the safety systems have to be turned on.
In case you haven't already watched this one, here is a link to an orientation video (useful for me as I also did not take delivery in person at the dealership).
I haven't noticed the passenger airbag light. My Infiniti does this (I think to note it is not active) so maybe I am immune to any concern being triggered.
you're gonna love your new christmas gift. the lane keep/assist on my 2019 must be turned on to be active (accessible thru the
main display screen) and is controllable with the button on the right side of the steering wheel. i can actually drive hands free with this feature but the car will immediately measure that
both hands are not on the wheel, and will so advise you with the warning to "keep both hands on the wheel ! " you can also adjust the sensitivity of this feature.
the passenger airbag alert is activated once a passenger sits, and when the seat is vacant (not that it would be difficult to perceive this on your own, but what the hey).
i'm continuing to discover unexpected features on this baby, some of which are detailed in related posts hereabouts, such as the borders on the speed limit signs changing to
yellow as you're speeding. y tube features a video of the tach turning orange before red as it hits redline, but i havent seen mine do this yet...
Maybe I'm speaking ragtime here, but I thought it was a lane departure warning. I get an audio warning if I change lanes, but the warning is mute it a signal the lane change first. Any mechanical intervention that would try to override my steering inputs would definitely not be welcome.

If you have LKA (lane keep assist) activated it will actively give steering inputs to keep you centered in the lane. Sensitivity is adjustable. You can, as said above, drive hands free for a bit but the display will protest if you do it for too long. On long trips it can keep you from swaying out of the lane if your attention drifts for a bit. Maybe it comes only with the performance package steering only which you don't have, Lou??
so we have two features : lane departure alert AND lane keep assist. while i keep both on, they are easily
deactivated with the steering wheel button . on the two lane roads i travel, the lane departure alert is a little intrusive so i have the
sensitivity dialed down; i'm not sure if the lane keep assist is adjustable. funny, the steering wheel can sense when i have only one hand on the
wheel, and sometimes scolds me so...

Reason: completeness
Actually I have two lane departure warning systems. In addition to the one in the LC I have a Garmin dash cam. The Garmin unit is more sensitive than the one in the car.
^^^^If it stays on all the time, somethings wrong. I believe there are weight sensors in the passengers and the rear seats that activate if there is heavy mass in any of the seat positions and the belt ends are not mated.

you'll be pleased to read the 4 pages in your new owner's manual regarding the answer to your second question;
i just read it, and i'm not really sure what the answer is...
I believe my Airbag light stays on all the time - with passenger or not.
I thought this was normal - and if I recall, I remember watching a review when the LC first came out with the reviewer complaining about that. I might be wrong.
Nevertheless, I thought that was normal - if not, then I'll have to go to the dealership and get that resolved.
On the 1st point, I've never had my LC intervene with lane keep assist. I'll have to look into my settings to see if I have that turned on (might be another issue my vehicle has).
One thing that I know though, is that Lane Departure Alert won't function until you see the icon on your dash in green. This is when you know that the LC has properly read the lanes and will be able to provide you with a warning.
Well, color me WRONG
The passenger side warning airbag light stays on to alert the driver that the airbag is turned off when the seat is empty. When the seat is occupied the light switches to the right and indicates that the airbag is active. One of the lights remain lit when the ignition is on.

LKA was one of the first settings that I turned off. The passenger air bag light is always on. My CTS coupe had the same feature and it drove me nuts for the first couple of months until I learned to stop looking at it. I find myself too busy watching the speedometer climb to focus on it in the LC 😀
